H&R showcases rare Porsche 911 993 Turbo with factory performance upgrade

Every Porsche model tells its own story. The 993 series marked the end of an era – the era of air-cooled Porsches.
At the end of the model series, Porsche offered a factory performance upgrade for the 993 Turbo: the rare WLS II was only installed in 1998.

This vehicle is one of them and belongs to the private collection of Helena and Christian Heine, the children of Werner Heine, one of the two founders of H&R Spezialfedern GmbH & Co.KG, who started the company together with Heinz Remmen in 1981.

This very Porsche 993 Turbo will be on display for the first time this year at the Essen Motor Show, where H&R is participating as an exhibitor for the 35th time.

It goes without saying that Werner’s Porsche was fitted with an H&R coil over suspension, as this was not available from Porsche, either for money or for good words. The suspension, still available today under part number 29954-1, allows a variable lowering between 30 and 60 millimetres.

But back to the Porsche 993 Turbo, of which only about 550 units were built in its last model year in 1998. It is estimated that around 20-25% of these were equipped with the WLS II ex-works. So we are talking about a maximum of 140 vehicles, which is why this special model is now a sought-after collector’s item, not to mention an icon of Porsche history.

Thanks to GT2 technology, primarily two larger turbochargers and a new control unit, power was increased from 408 to 450 hp. In addition, Zuffenhausen contributed an additional oil cooler and the characteristic four-pipe exhaust system as part of the WLS II. With these measures, the 993 Turbo with WLS II is said to have completed the sprint from zero to 200 km/h in just 12.8 seconds – an almost unimaginable figure at the time and still a real statement even today. Litronic headlights for better visibility, automatic cruise control, an on-board computer, and a hi-fi sound package for those who found the sound from the rear insufficient completed the dazzling appearance of this dream car. The interior featured black smooth leather seats, fully electric with seat heating for the driver and front passenger, of course, and the door panels and centre console were also clad in fine leather.
