H&R DIY Springs V2 – The next stage in the evolution of customised suspension dynamics

With the launch of the H&R DIY Springs V2, H&R presents an innovative product solution that redefines the boundaries of conventional suspension development. Based on a completely new material architecture and proprietary steel alloy optimisation, this system offers users the opportunity, for the first time, to configure suspension springs themselves according to individual performance parameters.

At the heart of the development is a specially tuned, thermally reactive spring steel structure, whose microstructural properties in the as-delivered state allow for targeted plastic deformation by the end user. This deliberately induced ductility phase allows the spring rate, progression characteristics and lowering level to be freely defined – precisely tailored to vehicle-specific requirements and personal driving dynamics preferences.

The subsequent thermal activation process is carried out via a defined heat treatment at 270 °C in a standard domestic oven. During this process, the structure of the spring steel is transformed through targeted recrystallisation and hardening into a state that achieves the mechanical properties of industrially manufactured suspension springs and ensures strength parameters compliant with standards.

Following the controlled cooling phase to approximately 35 °C, the final surface finish is applied using the supplied special paint in the iconic H&R blue. This coating not only ensures a distinctive brand aesthetic, but also provides additional corrosion protection to OEM standards.
